CCD / CIS Systems

CCD Scanners
Changed Coupled Devices or "CCDs" are microchips that are usually used as the image sensors in high resolution digital cameras. Epson scanners that feature CCD sensors can create high quality scanned images that are similar to a digital photograph. Because light path of the scanner travels a longer distance before passing through the scanner lens, greater depth of field can be achieved in order to scan sharp and clear images of uneven documents, books or even 3D objects which are placed on the scanner glass. This is especially useful for scanning film whereby the film holder lifts the film higher from the glass surface. CCD scanners can capture higher dynamic range (Optical Density) which captures every detail from film.

Benefits of CCD technology:

  • Higher scanning speed.
  • Greater depth of field for scanning uneven documents or 3D objects on scanner glass.
  • Sharper and clearer details for film scanning.
  • Higher Dynamic Range (Optical Density).

CIS Scanners
Scanners using Contact Image Sensor (CIS) technology illuminates red, green and blue LEDs to capture objects placed on the glass. The sensors underneath the glass capture the image through a lens array. Because lesser parts are required to manufacture the scanner carriage using CIS technology, the scanner can me made much smaller in overall size. CIS scanners require lesser power to operate as compared to CCD scanners, which make it possible for portable scanners to be powered by USB. However, as the distance between the object, lens and sensors are close to each other, the scanner has limited depth of field, and hence focus on the part of the scanned item in direct contact with the scanner's glass surface. This issue is rectified as sheet fed scanners have pressure plates to ensure that the documents are flat on the surface when passing through the scanner.

Benefits of CIS technology:

  • Lower cost of scanner.
  • Small scanner carriage design, which leads to smaller overall size of scanner.
  • Low power consumption.
  • Less image distortion.

ReadyScan LED
  • Epson's ReadyScan LED is environmentally friendly. It is energy efficient and mercury free.

DOCUMENT SCANNER TECHNOLOGY

Find out how Epson simplifies your scanning experience.

  • High Speed ADF Scanning with Duplex
  • Network Scanning
  • Ultrasonic Double Feed Detection
High Speed ADF Scanning with Duplex

Epson’s ADF scanners deliver up to 70ppm for A4 sized documents. With 1-pass duplex scanning, the scanner can deliver up to 140ipm by scanning both sides of a document with a single pass.

Network Scanning

With the Network Interface Panel/Unit, scanners supporting this function can be shared with multiple users across your network. Users with Document Capture Pro (for Windows) can assign up to 30 customisable jobs to the Network Interface Panel/Unit for push scanning.

Ultrasonic Double Feed Detection

The in-built detector ensures that every page is scanned by sensing if more than a single page has been accidentally fed into the scanner. In this occurrence, it will alert the user to rectify the issue before continuing.

PHOTO SCANNER TECHNOLOGY

Epson allows you to preserve your photos as great as you remember them.

  • Auto Focus
  • Digital ICE Technology
  • Dual Lens System
  • Film Scanning
Auto Focus

The Auto Focus system allows for a clearer and sharper scan. The optical system can automatically focus onto your media or be manually adjusted to achieve pinpoint sharpness.

Digital ICE Technology

Digital ICE Technology is an advanced, yet easy-to-use hardware-based film and photo defect removal feature that is found in Epson’s photo scanners.

  • For photo prints, the scanner scans the original using 2 light sources from different directions to detect the position of the dust and scratches for removal.

  • For film scanning, the scanner scans the original using an infrared light source to detect the position of the dust and scratches for removal.
Dual Lens System

The Dual Lens System is a double lens scanning application which allows the scanning of various type of film format.

  • Dual Lens System automatically uses the High Resolution lens to scan up to 4800 x 9600dpi for reflective.

  • Super Resolution Lens allows up to 6400 x 9600dpi for film scanning using the film holders.
Film Scanning

Scan Positive and Negative film with scanners which have in-built transparency units.
